Designing The Anderson Wedding Tartan

Tartan is a link to your past, present and future and there’s nothing quite like designing and owning your own bespoke tartan to immortalise your legacy. With the help of our in-house tartan designer, you can create your own exclusive tartan to represent your family, business or organisation. We love seeing your tartan designs come to life and James and Stefanie were kind enough to share the story of the tartan they designed for their wedding day.

Wedding party in kilts

Firstly, we wanted to ask the newlyweds why they chose to come to MacGregor and MacDuff ahead of their wedding day and why James wanted to wear a kilt. He told us,

“It was always important for me to wear a kilt on my wedding day because of my Scottish heritage. I have a strange/complicated relationship with my extended family which leaves me with most of my relatives I am in contact with being Scottish. Because of this, despite living in England all of my life, all I know is my Scottish heritage. I chose to go with Macgregor and Macduff because I was able to design and have my own tartan woven through them.”

James went on to tell us a bit more about his tartan and why the couple decided to design one.

“The name of the tartan is “Anderson, James & Anderson, Stefanie - Wedding (Personal). You can view it hereMy family is Anderson clan, and my wife’s second name is Anderson, however, the Anderson Clan tartan didn’t match the colour scheme that we wanted. We saw an opportunity to create something special for ourselves and our wedding party which is why we wanted to design our own Tartan.”

Our Tartan Design Service is the opportunity to make something extra special ahead of your wedding day that you can treasure forever. Get in touch with our team to learn more about the service.

Anderson tartan

Having created such a unique and striking tartan, we wanted to know what tartan items James decided to have made ahead of the couple’s day. James explained what his wedding party wore and what they would like to have created in the future.

“For the groomsmen, we had kilts made, ties, flashes, pocket squares, one waistcoat for the father of the bride and a fly plaid for myself. Stef has joked about getting enough woven to upholster a sofa (not sure she was actually joking) I’d be interested in some brogues, a waistcoat for myself or possibly some trews.”

From everyday accessories to trews and kilts, the possibilities are endless after your tartan is registered.

James also told us when he’s planning on wearing his kilt next.

“Wherever I can get away with it to be honest. It will be great to get all the guys in theirs again for a “Tartan Reunion”. We will likely wear it again for anniversary parties or other formal events as well as using it for more casual affairs.”

Wedding in Scotland

During the tartan design process, James and Stefanie worked closely with our in-house tartan designer. We wondered how they found the process and this is what they had to say,

“The tartan design process was reasonably simple. My advice would be to take your time with it and be absolutely sure you’re happy with the design, I decided to pay for a redesign and the final result is brilliant and everyone that wore it absolutely loves it.”

Lastly, we asked James how it feels to own his own officially registered tartan. We loved his answer!

“It feels really special. Because of my complicated family, I always felt like I didn't know where I belonged. To be able to have my own tartan feels like I have created my own little section of belonging. Having it on the registry is a great way to have something that is left behind after I'm gone as well (not making any immediate plans!) but it will always be there. People are always really complimentary of the design and when they ask about it, they are always really interested to hear the story.”
