Samantha and David's Wedding Day

Samantha and David recently celebrated their big day and have graciously agreed to share a little bit of their story with us. As we’ve mentioned before, we love hearing about our customer's wedding days and learning a little bit about the thought processes behind planning one of the most important days of their lives.

We asked David why he chose to wear a kilt outfit for his big day. He explained that “Being Scottish, I have a lot of love for the kilt. I had only worn one once before when I was extremely young and I remember how much I loved it at the time. I knew that when I got married I wanted one of my own, not rented, fully bought.” There is no better time to buy your first kilt than your wedding day, so it’s great to hear that David took the plunge and bought instead of hired. It will be great for events in the future and serve as a reminder of his special day.

We know why people should come to MacGregor and MacDuff for their highlandwear needs, but it's always interesting to hear why our customers decide to choose us. So we asked David and he said, “My fiancé (at the time) and I went to the Scottish Wedding show in Glasgow and came across the MacGregor and MacDuff stall. The most beautiful kilts were on display and the staff were friendly and helpful. One particular kilt caught my eye and the staff offered very good advice about it, such as how its colours would go well with some of our other wedding decor choices.”

One of the hardest things about choosing your kilt outfit is picking a tartan. There are over 4,000 options, so finding that perfect one is never as easy as it seems. When we spoke to David about his tartan choice, he said that “The kilt on display that caught my eye at the wedding show was in the Harris Mist. I thought it looked absolutely stunning and knew immediately I wanted to pick it. Unfortunately, they didn’t know yet whether it would be made and we had to place a vote for it. Over the next while we prayed enough people voted for it to be made, and luckily it did! The kilt perfectly complimented the colours chosen for our big day.” For a little bit of context, David visited our stand before we had made our final decision about whether or not to produce our Harris Mist tartan. All we had at that time was one kilt in the tartan and during the wedding show, we asked our visitors if they thought we should add it to our exclusive Mist range. Thankfully, it was a landslide decision which is how Harris Mist became our newest exclusive tartan. David in fact was one of the first people to wear the tartan.

As you can see from their photos, David stood out very well from his groomsman and we think he did a really great job at creating a cohesive look while keeping his prominence. We asked David how he went about choosing his groomsmen outfits. “I knew I wanted to stand out from the others, but I still wanted them to look great. The Oban Mist outfit was perfect because it was a nice subtle tartan that made my Harris Mist pop with a bit of colour.”

After meeting us at the wedding show, David came into our store to get his outfit arranged. We wanted to know what he thought of the service he received and this was his reply. “It was excellent. From the moment I entered for my very first fitting, I was treated like a VIP. My fitter, Caroline, was knowledgeable and helpful with her recommendations on colours and accessories. I was allowed as much time as required and didn’t feel rushed at all. The coffee was excellent too! My subsequent visit to collect my completed outfit was the same and became quite an emotional experience once I was fully dressed up. My vision for how I wanted to look came together and it was hard for my wife (fiancé then) and I not to get a bit teary at the end result!” We do love hearing glowing reviews like this and it’s great to hear how much David and Samantha both enjoyed their visit.

We were interested to hear how the outfits David choose complemented the theme of their wedding. David said that, “The theme was mainly a lot of white flowers with green foliage. The foliage really helped tie in the Harris Mist!” It’s often quite tricky to find a tartan that works well with the wedding theme but David did a great job with his choice of Harris Mist.

We are sure that the day was filled with amazing moments but we wanted to see if David could pick just one moment that really stood out to him as being the best part of his wedding day. “The best part was seeing my wife come down the aisle, and seeing her reaction to me standing there waiting for her. Also, the fact I felt like a million dollars in my kilt the entire day!” Great answer David.

As a newlywed, we asked David if he had any advice for future brides and grooms that might read this article. He said “Relax! Enjoy the day, the planning and setting up is all complete and the only thing left to do is have fun and enjoy what you have envisioned. Also… wear a kilt that makes you stand out from the others and you will feel almost as special as the bride!”

Thank you David and Samantha for sharing your story, it looked and sounded like a wonderful day and we wish you all the best for the future.
